Community Mapping and Photovoice Project
The Community Mapping and Photovoice Project is a community-based action research project that is designed to do
just that. The project, which launched in June of 2007, engages African American women who live on Syracuse’s southside
in using photography to capture images of their community that describe both its assets and deficits. Through a series of Saturday workshops, participants mapped their community, learned photography skills, and captured images of their neighborhood.
The project culminates with a community photovoice exhibition that displays a selection of the participants’ best images
This project is sponsored in partnership with the Syracuse Community Health Center (SCHC), a private non-profit corporation that serves as Syracuse’s public health service. To learn more about SCHC, please visit our Partners page.
