Mission StatementAfrican American Studies at Syracuse University is on the move! The structure of the undergraduate program offered by the department reflects a broad-based, comprehensive approach to the study of Black people globally. In addition to its global scope, the approach is interdisciplinary, and both national and transnational in its orientation. Specifically, the curriculum has a three-pronged focus: African, African American, and Caribbean. We intend to expand work in these three areas to reflect the present growth of substantive current research in the field that focuses on black populations in these regions as well as in Europe and across North America.
